About Sunderland Alliance

Sunderland GP Alliance (SGPA) is a not-for-profit collaboration owned by the GP practices of Sunderland, working together for patients & practices to deliver proactive, sustainable, high-quality primary care across our city. We support member GP practices with shared resources, innovation, centralised services, clinical leadership, back-office infrastructure and strategic coordination to enhance how primary care is delivered. We operate three medical practices at Monument Surgeries, New Silksworth Medical Centre, and South Hylton Surgery and run the Sunderland Enhanced Access Service (SEAS) offering extra GP appointments in evenings and weekends, available across multiple sites in the city. We drive collaborative initiatives such as clinical pharmacist provision, shared innovation, and partnership working across the wider health & care system. We facilitate research and evaluation projects, in partnership with universities and health research bodies, to inform continuous service improvement. Why It Matters In challenging times for the NHS and primary care, the Alliance enables scale, resilience and agility. We expand access and reduce barriers to GP care via extended hours and multiple sites. We focus on proactive, preventive, and population health approaches to reduce pressure downstream on hospitals and emergency care.
