About Sunny Side Kitchen
Sunny Side Kitchen Established 2011 155 S. Orange St. (just off Grand Ave. at 2nd) Escondido, California Phone- 760-294-4450 Web site- www.SunnySideKitchen.com Email- SunnySideKitchen@gmail.com Facebook (Sunny Side Kitchen) Instagram (sunny_side_kitchen) Twitter (@sunny_kitchen) We are Kate and Bob Carpenter of Escondido, California. In 2015 we opened a small restaurant called Sunny Side Kitchen that serves breakfast and lunch panini, salads and soup, in addition to bite-sized cookies, gluten free muffins and brownies. Just two years later Yelp put us on their list of Top 100 Restaurants You Should Visit...in the entire country. And then they did it again in 2018. How did we get here? In 2011 Kate was at a career crossroads and wanted to do something completely different, so she started selling cookies at the Farmers’ Market. After adding panini, salads and soup over time, the company was expanded and we started setting up the food booth at many of San Diego’s local breweries. In 2015 we opened up our brick and mortar location in downtown Escondido. We are a tiny mom and pop shop on a side street just off Grand in historic downtown Escondido. We’re just off the 15 and 78, on the way to the San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park, Harrah’s Casino and other local attractions (like Stone Brewing and The Children’s Museum). We’re a good stop on the way out to the desert and lots of bridal parties gather here the day or so before their wedding. We describe our food as Casual California Cuisine and it is served in a hobo chic, fast casual setting. The open kitchen design leads to open dialogue and connectivity. Handcrafted panini, salads, soups, baked goods, craft coffee, as often as possible local and from scratch. For example...to make a lemonade we take a farmer’s market lemon and muddle it with sugar in a cocktail mixer cup, then add ice and water and shake it up. We say a lot “it can’t get any fresher than this!”
