About Sunstang Solar Car Project
Founded in 1991, Western’s Sunstang Solar Car Project has 28 years worth of Solar Car experience under the hood. Sunstang’s entry into solar car racing was a massive success as our team finished 2nd in North America at the 1996 World Solar Challenge. Sunstang has experienced significant growth and development in both engineering and operations in recent years. Our Project Manager this year is veteran Steven Lawrence, a 4th year Mechantronics Student who brings to us his experience and lessons learned from managing other Western University Engineering teams. Our Operations Lead, Jeremy Laflamme, is returning to Western from a 16-month internship as an Engineering Project Assistant for the Department of National Defence, and brings to the team his experience with budget planning, workplace structure, and effective team communication. Sunstang’s team leads represent some of Western’s most ambitious students, and we plan to meet and exceed the expectations of our faculty and peers.
