About SURI - The Sustainable Urban Resilience Initiative
SURI is the Sustainable Urban Resilience Initiative; a specialised Design and Construction Research and Development Project. The SURI Project commenced in 2012 with M.Arch research of advanced forms of ICF and EPS molded Concrete Construction Techniques as both a disaster response for residential rebuilding and a model for next-generation high-performance housing. The SURI Project is focused on developing the way we design and build future housing that will contribute to an authentically Resilient and Sustainable future urban environment. The SURI Project is based in post-earthquake disaster Christchurch, New Zealand where our activities have relevance to not only the immediate location, but also other locations worldwide where similar disasters have occurred, or will occur in the future. Post-disaster environments provide a wealth of information and data for what can comprehensively perform better, what failed, and why. The SURI Project research of alternative approaches to domestic scale Architecture and Construction continues, together with the development of new resilient systems and methods of building.
