About Susquehanna National Heritage Area
Susquehanna National Heritage Area (SNHA) is a regional non-profit organization and Congressionally-designated coordinating entity for America’s 55th National Heritage Area. We collaborate with local, state and national partners to connect people to the nationally important places and stories of Lancaster and York Counties in South Central Pennsylvania. Our work focuses on the cultural and natural resources of the Susquehanna River and the scenic and historic landscapes and communities that have been shaped by the river across Lancaster and York Counties. SNHA is a member of the Alliance of National Heritage Areas and HeritagePA, the statewide network of Pennsylvania Heritage Areas. SNHA is based in Wrightsville, PA and owns and manages the Zimmerman Center for Heritage, an historic home on the river at Long Level. We also manage the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, a visitor education center on the waterfront in Columbia. SNHA is currently developing the historic Mifflin House & Farm near Wrightsville into the Susquehanna Discovery Center & Heritage Park, a world-class destination within America’s 55th National Heritage Area. The site will feature a gateway visitor center and river art museum in a renovated historic Pennsylvania bank barn, introducing visitors and area residents to the unique stories of Lancaster and York Counties, including over 400 years of Susquehanna River art. The historic home will be interpreted as an Underground Railroad station and the surrounding park will feature Civil War battlefield history and an interpretive trail network .
