Sussex Development was formed in 1990, by Harry Davis, a Virginia Beach native and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University graduate. After working for several large general contractors he grew increasingly frustrated with their philosophies on how to treat clients and employees. Harry decided he wanted to take his passion for construction and create a company that incorporated his core values of honesty, integrity, dedication and quality, to serve not only the Hampton Roads market, but the entire mid-Atlantic region. Sussex Development was born out of a one-room office with just three employees, who all remain active team members today. Sussex Development has remained a closely held corporation, with over 300 combined years of construction experience, spread among its twenty-two employees. Nearly three-quarters of our employees have been team members in excess of ten years. We foster strong relationships with our clients, which in turn equate to over 90% of our work coming from repeat clients and referrals. Clients trust us to guide them from initial design concept to final occupancy. Through our commitment, experience and expertise, Sussex Development has established business relationships to last a lifetime! Our niche markets are Healthcare, Banking and Recreational Facilities, although we regularly work in a variety of office settings, industrial and retail buildings. We are as adept at building quality ground-up construction as we are in performing tenant build outs and renovation projects. Our clients include TowneBank, YMCA of South Hampton Roads, ABNB Federal Credit Union, Monarch Bank, Sentara, CHKD, Long & Foster and the College of the Albemarle, just to name a few.
