About Sustainable Developments

We are a non-profit organization within the University of California, Riverside and our goal is to design and build a sustainable home. We are a team of 60 divided into three departments: Business, Engineering, and Outreach. Each department is split into smaller subteams, with one Director for each Department and one Lead for each Subteam. The team comprises 60 students from various disciplines at the University of California, Riverside. Each team member works at our Construction Site for at least three hours per week. The Engineering Department manages our product's design and construction phases, including our Architecture, Construction, Laboratories, Modeling, and Systems teams. Our Business Department manages the team's equipment, recruitment, and funds, including Competition, Finance, Organizational, and UI/UX Design. The Outreach department oversees all social media engagement, our market viability, and sales potential and communicates with sponsors through Investments, Marketing, and Sponsors Subteams. Our approach to the competition revolves heavily around the design of our HexHomes. We are conducting extensive research to maximize the environmental factor of our homes while maintaining high-quality living spaces. HexHomes is a new innovative urbanized concept that utilizes hexagonal-shaped factory-built pods to increase the number of orientation possibilities and provide customers an additional layer of customization with more walls and square footage per fabricated unit while eliminating unnecessary space required for hallways. Along with the unique structure of our homes, we are also looking into different materials and suppliers to increase the sustainability and affordability of our homes. Our team conducts extensive research and cost comparisons of all materials, finishings, furniture, and lighting to amplify these spaces' comfort, functionality, and adaptability while prioritizing off-site fabrication and sustainability.
