The Sustainable Meeting Planning Program® (SMPP®) is an on-line system for Sustainable Meeting/Event Management; it is the only system available online with ISO 20121 certification. SMPP® also meets all APEX/ASTM planner standards for sustainable meetings, events, trade shows, and conferences. SMPP® provides a standardized comprehensive system for any organization to integrate sustainability into the hosting, organizing and planning of meetings and events. It includes metrics, policies and procedures for tracking, scoring, improving and reporting sustainability. SMPP® is the only online platform allowing organizations worldwide to demonstrate transparency through their ratings on public directories. In addition, users may maintain and publish a career portfolio of their sustainable meetings utilizing the SMPP® Individual Directory, viewable by anyone online, free of charge. SMPP® was launched by the Convention Industry Council in 2014. It was embraced by Meeting Professionals International (MPI), which now uses SMPP® for its signature events. In August 2015, MPI launched a certificate program for users of SMPP®, called the Sustainable Meeting Professional Certificate.
