About Sustainable San Mateo County
Vision Sustainable San Mateo County is dedicated to the long-term health of our county’s economy, environment and social equity. Mission To stimulate community action on economic, environmental and social issues by providing accurate, timely and empowering information. History Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) was established in 1992 by a group of San Mateo County citizens who sought to create a broader awareness of the sustainability concept. In 1996 SSMC began operating as a non-profit group under the administration of the Tides Center. In 2002, SSMC became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation dedicated to educating the community about sustainability. Our core programs are the Indicators Report which has been produced annually since 1997 and the Awards Event which has been held annually since 1999. Goals Provide fact-based information about San Mateo County’s economy, environment, and society. Educate the community about sustainability. Bring the concepts of sustainability into the mainstream of decision-making countywide. Contribute to the long-term improvement of our economy, environment, and society.
