About Sustainable Sciences Institute (SSI)
Sustainable Sciences Institute (SSI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening scientific and public health communities in resource-limited settings. Since 1998, we’ve partnered with local researchers, institutions, and ministries to advance sustainable, locally led responses to public health challenges such as dengue, Zika, hepatitis, influenza, and other emerging infectious diseases. Our mission is to support scientific and public health communities in resource-poor settings to develop sustainable local research and public health systems. Global health depends on scientists and health professionals who can recognize and resolve problems at the local level. In many low-resource countries, these professionals face major barriers: limited access to technical training, research tools, funding, and current scientific knowledge. SSI collaborates with partners to address these gaps by: 1. Promoting action-led research based on locally identified needs 2. Adapting and transferring innovative technologies to local conditions 3. Building a global network of mentors and collaborators 4. Supporting professional growth through training in diagnostics, epidemiology, data science, grant writing, and scientific communication SSI’s model of scientific partnership has been recognized by the World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, Organization of American States, U.S. National Science Foundation, and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, among others. ➤ 2,000+ scientists and public health professionals trained ➤ 100+ peer-reviewed publications co-authored with LMIC partners ➤ 100+ workshops in 29 countries ➤ Recognized globally for strengthening locally led research and sustainable innovation in public health
