About SustainableQATAR

SustainableQATAR is a think and do tank that raises awareness, creates actionable knowledge, and encourages connections and collaboration between individuals and groups for environmental sustainability. Founded in 2008, SustainableQATAR is an independent organization that actively engages members of the public, private, and government sectors to take environmental action. SustainableQATAR aims to: -Empower the community at large by developing ‘mind-changing’ solutions for climate adaptation – not because of natural resources limitations in the desert, but in spite of it. -Provide a platform for networking to promote collaboration between diverse members of Qatar’s population to enhance environmental sustainability. -Support the first-ever carbon neutral 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. -As a signatory to the Paris Agreement, assist Qatar in reducing carbon emissions and contributing to a regenerative future where environmental sustainability becomes the motor for a healthy economy. Milestones achieved: - SustainableQATAR operates on a volunteer basis. - Organization grew exponentially since its inception. - 40 to 50 people attend every monthly meeting of high caliber and interesting presentations and discussions on environmental issues relevant to Qatar. - In 2012 SustainableQATAR broke through major barriers and presenters and attendees represent the local Qatari and expat community. This mix of locals and expats is new to Qatar, and a true accomplishment. - SustainableQATAR became an official observer organization for the 18th Conference of Parties (COP18) United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Doha, Qatar in November 2012 with 11 approved delegates. - SustainableQATAR is a founding and board member of Qatar Sustainability Network (QSN), launched in November 2012.
