The art--watercolour paintings and pen-and-ink drawings--and copyrights of American Contemporary artist Suzie ZUZEK'S two dimensional works have been saved. Timeless and relevant, ZUZEK'S designs share an emotional bond with the millions of those who know her look but not her name. This unknown woman artist from the twentieth century will now be celebrated for the first time in sixty years and recognized for her contributions to art and fashion history. A Brief Factual History: Key West Hand Print Fabric's most significant client, the Lilly Pulitzer company eventually bought 51 percent interest in the company. ZUZEK, Key West Hand Print Fabrics, and Lilly Pulitzer would be closely entwined from 1962 until bankruptcy closed the original Lilly Pulitzer company in 1985. Bankruptcy resulted in Lilly Pulitzer, Inc. separating the design archive from Lilly Pulitzer's trademarked name. The extensive archive of prints--the vast majority by ZUZEK--was sold off in 1985. Years later the Lilly Pulitzer trademarked name only--13 letters--was sold to a different company. The archive has remained in tact. It was recently rediscovered and acquired by efforts led by Becky Smith who has steadfastly remained intent on saving and celebrating ZUZEK'S legacy and her iconic American art.
