Sweet Potato Comfort Pie was founded in 2014 by Rose McGee, who responded to the murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, with solidarity and healing by delivering sweet potato pies to a grieving community. She discovered the power of the pie as a way to create conversation, provide comfort and spark alliances for committed action. Since that time, Sweet Potato Comfort Pie has gone on to create extensive programming that educates, elevates and activates communities around issues of racial justice. Rose McGee and the work of Sweet Potato Comfort Pie have appeared on The Jason Show, the Rachael Ray Show, NBC Nightly News, The Huffington Post, People Magazine and many other media outlets.
