About Swiss American Historical Society

The Swiss American Historical Society (SAHS) was founded in Chicago in 1927. It was established to promote the study of the Swiss in America, Swiss-American relations, and Swiss immigration to the United States. The SAHS encourages American interest in Swiss history and culture, unites those involved in genealogical research, and serves as a link between Swiss Americans, Swiss, and Americans in fostering cultural awareness and mutual understanding. Chapters of the Society exist in Switzerland and North America. The Society publishes the Swiss American Historical Society Review 3 times a year, and a book generally every one to two years. Each calendar year, the Swiss American Historical Society awards a Leo Schelbert Award to the best Swiss or Swiss-American history paper that we receive. Any undergraduate or graduate student can submit a paper for consideration. The annual meeting typically takes place in early to mid October. All members and non-members are welcome to attend.
