About Syrian American Academic Society (SAAS)

Mission of the Society To bring together Syrian scholars and academics in North America—regardless of their political views, regional backgrounds, or religious affiliations—to foster communication and collaboration among them, highlight their achievements, provide academic support and mentorship to Syrian students, and contribute to the development of higher education in Syria through knowledge, expertise, and international partnerships. Founders and Board Members: Dr. Alaaeddin Alsbaiee (President): A chemical and Nanotechnology scientist, researcher and inventor. Currently working as a research and development (R&D) Manager and a lab leader at BASF Corporation. Dr. Mhd Hassan Almekdash (Vice President): Professor of Biostatistics and Director of the Biostatistics Division at Baylor College of Medicine in the Texas Medical Center; also a statistical consultant for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Ahmed Katsha (Secretary General): Professor of Anatomy and Physiology at Raritan Valley College in New Jersey. Dr. Tarek Kandakji (Treasurer): Quantitative Methodologist at Baylor College of Medicine, University of Texas; also a consultant at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Goals and Activities of the Society: 1) Showcasing Syrian academic excellence and scientific achievements in the United States through written and visual content. 2) Providing guidance and support to Syrian graduate students currently in the U.S. or planning to pursue higher education in the U.S. 3) Collaborating with American institutions and Syrian academics to provide technical and educational support to universities in Syria. 4) Fostering academic collaboration between Syrian scholars in U.S. institutions and their counterparts in Syrian universities and research centers.
