About 't Ey

Musicclub 't Ey goes back to 1991, when its predecessor, 't Eynde (the End) was started. 't Eynde was more of a brown café, where small scale concerts were organised from time to time. In 2000, the organisation moved to an old school building, which over the last ten years has been transformed (and still is being transformed) into a serious though small scale music club: a concert hall for up to 100 people, a stage, a bar, a backstage area with a kitchen and a large but cosy attic. 't Ey also has its own house orchestra, the Fanteyfare. At 't Ey all the work, from cleaning and cooking over infrastructure works and sound and light engineering to public relations and putting together the concert agenda is done by one paid employee and a large number of commited volunteers. In 2010, 't Ey organised more than 50 concerts and several workshops We can boast of an ever rising number of concertgoers every year. The prime motive for our engagement to what we call "fragile" music genres is not purely entertainment: we believe that such small-scale concerts as we organise them really bring people (artists, volunteers and public) closer together. As a result, we are opposed to a commercialised music scene, even if that would be a folk scene. Yet we want our gigs to be organised in a professional way with an eye for real quality, in exchange for a bit of respect of public and musicians alike. This is the only profit we make.
