Tactual Labs is a human interface research and development company striving to equate digital and physical interaction. Our touch-module, co-processor, and application developer solutions endow a touch and stylus UI with the immediacy and precision of physical interactions in the real-world. These benefits are realized regardless of the strain on the processor from the application or operating system and without sacrificing programmatic flexibility. Why Reinvent the Touch-Stack? Physical objects respond instantly to the forces we apply to them. However, the digital input sensors and software in use today fail to provide the immediacy and precision of the physical world. Screen content responds 50 to 200 milliseconds after being touched. The result is a user experience that promises direct manipulation of on-screen content but under delivers. Dragged digital objects visibly lag behind the finger. Digital ink strokes trail behind the pen tip and fail to faithfully capture curves or fine-grain detail. This accuracy and latency gap between the digital and physical worlds limits software and interface design, perceived product quality, and end-user productivity. Research & Development We have two core areas of research and development: - A next-generation pro-cap touch-module that operates at a 1 kHz scanning rate, an order of magnitude faster than today’s 60 to 85 Hz solutions. - A touch/pen co-processor and developer toolkit to endow existing software with the immediacy and fidelity of physical interactions in the real-world.
