About Take My Lead

Take My Lead is a non-profit organization committed to improving the experience and outcomes of At – Risk College Students & Young Professionals through civic engagement. Our mission is to empower our participants with education, resources, referrals to community partners and comprehensive support to ensure retention, graduation and successful job placement. WHAT WE DO Take My Lead participants will be assigned a dedicated, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Outcomes Adviser to provide guidance, education, support, encouragement and access to community referrals. Our participants are outstanding citizens in the areas of academic excellence, active civic involvement and exhibit the traits of unwavering commitment, perseverance, determination and drive for success. Participation in our program will provide comprehensive support, including but not limited to: – Career Counseling – Resume Writing Services – Job Placement Assistance – Interview Preparation – Books & School Supplies – Toiletries / Hygiene Items – Referrals to local community resources WHY WE DO IT Take My Lead exists for the sole purpose of ensuring that our future leaders and workforce are not struggling with their basic needs in an effort to promote positive education and career for our participants. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory illustrates that an individual’s behavior is driven by one category of needs at any given time. The most basic needs are physiological in nature and include the need for air, food and water. The second level of basic needs includes personal safety (freedom from threats, danger and violence), as well as financial security and stability. The third level includes social needs, which includes the need for love, acceptance, friendship and community. Our charge is to ensure that anyone in pursuit of a college education or career has support to ensure individual success, as well as the success of our community.
