About Taking The Reins

With the mission of Advancing Girl Power through Horse Power, Taking the Reins is excited to be celebrating 25 years of service to underserved girls from under-resourced communities in Los Angeles. Our organization which started as an equine outreach program, has grown substantially over the years. Today, while horses and equine education remain the centerpiece of our programming, we also provide a robust seed-to-skillet gardening program where the girls learn the benefits of fresh vegetables in their diets, animal husbandry programs, enrichment programs, and a college readiness program called Youth Eduction Services (YES). Through our programs, the girls learn the four pillars of Confidence, Leadership, Responsibility and Teamwork.
