The region also includes 15 hotels with 4,000 guest rooms, major chemical industries, and extensive agricultural areas. In addition to providing services to its 1,350 residents, the council supports over 1.5 million tourists annually and serves the industrial facilities within its jurisdiction. The Dead Sea region is a rare gem, offering natural resources with therapeutic benefits, such as mineral-rich waters, thermal springs, therapeutic mud, a unique microclimate with oxygen-enriched air, and UV-filtered sunlight. Visitors can enjoy several public beaches equipped with lifeguard stations, showers, restrooms, and free parking. These beaches are complemented by multilingual signage for the convenience of all. The region also boasts unique natural attractions, historical landmarks, and exclusive wellness centers. As the lowest point on Earth, 416 meters below sea level, the Dead Sea is a remnant of the ancient Lake Lisan and represents a natural wonder unparalleled in the world. This unique area offers a striking blend of desert landscapes, lush oases with waterfalls and diverse vegetation, as well as a rich array of wildlife, including ibexes, rock hyraxes, and various bird species. The Tamar Regional Council is committed to supporting its residents and enhancing regional tourism. Additionally, the council actively participates in efforts to address the declining water levels of the Dead Sea, manage the region’s sinkholes, and protect the hotel shorelines and public beaches. These initiatives ensure the ongoing enjoyment of millions of visitors who come to experience the wonders of this extraordinary region.
