It is made of a hypoallergenic, non-pill polyester fleece that is lightweight, yet more absorbent and stain resistant than cotton terry. TRACH-AIDE eliminates both the side to side movement that causes irritation and distortion of the stoma and the downward angulation of the endotracheal tube that causes irritation to the inner posterior tracheal wall. It also properly positions the tube in the center of the trachea, resulting in maximum airflow into the lungs. The protype was developed by a retired cardiothoracic surgeon for his brother, a retired neurosurgeon who is afflicted with ALS. TRACH-AIDE is manufactured in the USA.
