About Tchoupitoulas Arts Corridor
New Orleans is building its next cultural landmark — and this time, it’s on the floodwall. The Tchoupitoulas Street Art Corridor is a historic public art project transforming a vital city gateway into the longest outdoor mural in the United States. Stretching more than 1.5 miles, the mural is a living timeline of New Orleans — celebrating 300+ years of cultural resilience, innovation, and community pride. Led by artist and educator Jamar D. Pierre, and created with permission from the Flood Protection Authority, this is the first time in over a century that a New Orleans floodwall has been reimagined as permanent public art. Why it matters: Cultural Legacy – Honors Indigenous, African, Creole, French, Spanish, Vietnamese, and other communities through visual storytelling Tourism & Economic Impact – Boosts visibility for 50+ local businesses and positions the corridor as a national destination Education & Workforce – Provides paid mentorships and real-world creative career pathways for local youth artists We’re building more than art — we’re building a shared legacy. Early supporters will be recognized permanently within the mural, invited to milestone celebrations, and included in national storytelling about this cultural corridor in the making.
