About Team Prime Time
Team Prime Time (TPT) was founded by Executive Director Peter Straus in 2001 in response to the lack of after school opportunities for at-risk youth from lower income communities in Los Angeles. Team Prime Time’s mission is to provide intervention programs that combine academics, athletics, leadership training and the arts to prepare at-risk youth for the future and allow them to reach their full potential. The organization’s primary goals in support of this mission are: a) Provide a safe and positive alternative to the streets during the most dangerous hours of the day; b) Improve student engagement; and c) Eliminate the achievement gap. TPT achieves these goals through two signature programs: 1) TPT After School Programs and 2) the Prime Time Games® AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS Launched with 21 students at Webster Middle School in 2001, TPT currently serves over 3,000 youth per year at two dozen Title I middle, K-8 and elementary schools in Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Inglewood Unified School District (IUSD). PRIME TIME GAMES® In 2004, began serving an additional underserved population, students with developmental and intellectual disabilities, through its landmark leadership program, the Prime Time Games® (PTG). The PTG is a full inclusion, peer-mentor sports program that gives two underserved populations from the same schools - lower income youth and the students with disabilities they coach and mentor - the opportunity to play together, and learn from one another, in the only league of its kind. Today, the PTG are held in more than 70 schools nationwide, with established leagues in Los Angeles County, Antelope Valley, Chicago, Oakland and Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Our vision is that all youth experience life-changing activities – such as the Games – that develop confidence, inspiration, purpose and direction.
