About TEDxCUNY

TEDxCUNY was formed in July 2013 out of the strong belief that a public academic institution as large and as diverse as the City University of New York needed a platform for spreading ideas and discussion. The team received its license on July 26th, 2014 and has since become an annual CUNY event gathering students, faculty, staff, affiliates, and the broader public for a day of idea-sharing. Organizational Structure With CUNY’s 530,000+ students enrolled in 25 institutions, TEDxCUNY is representationally the largest TEDx University event in the country. It is also the first public university TEDx conference in New York City, as well as the first TEDx event in the country to represent multiple campuses. The TEDxCUNY team is entirely student-run, and we take pride in our ability to take ownership of what comes out of our events. Our executive board consists of undergraduates and graduate students from various CUNY campuses. TEDxCUNY has held seven annual conferences. On November 16, 2014, TEDxCUNY held our first conference, "Access." Our second main event, "Borders and Belonging," took place on November 20th, 2015. "Circuits," the third conference, was held at the New York Hall of Science on March 10th, 2017. Our fourth main event, "Wild Card," occurred on March 10th, 2018. "What Matters Now," our fifth conference, took place on April 5, 2019. After a brief hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we hosted our comeback conference, "Who We Are," on March 10, 2023. Most recently, we hosted our seventh conference, "Unravel." We are now in the process of planning for our eighth annual conference.
