“Climate crisis” is a repeated phrase that has seen little change to industry behaviour. The government announced radical new climate change commitments that will result in the UK cutting carbon emissions by seventy eight percent by twenty thirty five. These law enforced commitments, will bring forward the current target on reducing CO2 by 15 years and would catapult the UK into a world-leading position. UK industry is feeling increased pressure of having to meet the requirements of multiple energy compliance exercises with the added social and supply chain scrutiny to demonstrate they operate an energy-efficient business. We feel the current services offered by established consultancies is decentralised and does not tackle the multiple challenges facing businesses. There is little guidance. Resources around understanding how to tackle these challenges, and the reputational risk posed by them are few and far between. And till no-one is taking the lead…..the delay is around market maturity, lack of clarity and constant reviews of targets. Whilst UK consultants continue to wait and misrepresent their clients, little progress is being made and the vital role that energy management will play is being lost to a compliance exercise, where its value is ineffective.
