About Tetiaroa Society
Tetiaroa Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the United States, dedicated to securing a future as rich as the past for island and coastal communities. From our base on the private atoll of Tetiaroa in French Polynesia, we work to restore ecosystems, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen resilience to global change. Our mission blends science, traditional knowledge, and sustainability to build a model of harmony between people and nature. Grounded in field experience, our vision follows an "island-world" approach, weaving enlightened values, ancestral knowledge, and scientific understanding to reinvent our relationship with the living world. What we do: - Manage, conserve, and protect the atoll as the designated environmental steward of Tetiaroa - Implement a comprehensive Conservation and Sustainable Use Plan to guide our initiatives - Lead the Atoll Restoration Program to remove invasive species and restore biodiversity - Host international researchers studying both marine and terrestrial ecosystems - Provide immersive education programs and outreach in partnership with The Brando - Preserve and promote cultural and environmental knowledge Tetiaroa is more than an atoll — it is a model of ecological and social innovation, a living laboratory serving island communities worldwide, where science, culture, and environmental stewardship come together to inspire lasting global change.
