About Texas Science Society
The Texas Science Society (TSS) is an initiative dedicated to teaching and mentoring middle schoolers about science and engineering research. Our mission is to create a safe and enriching learning environment for young minds who are interested in research and want to learn more about science and experiments. We work to educate students to not only be global scientists of the future, but also become more mature individuals who can navigate the complexities of life. TSS was founded in 2020 as “The Art of Scientific Experiments” before returning in 2023 with our new branding and headquarters in Austin, Texas. We work with advisors from the world’s top universities, including Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, UT Austin, and Purdue, to provide our students the best education and mentorship possible. Our Founder and former President, Vaishnuv Thiagarajan, is a prolific researcher himself, presenting his work at universities like MIT and Texas A&M, and being published in multiple scientific journals as well. We are managed by a hard-working team of students at Westwood High School with years of experience in various STEM fields, and we’re all so excited for this year! Through biweekly lessons and assignments, TSS is able to guide our students through the process of a science project. We begin with doing topic research and exploration of various fields of study, before narrowing down to an idea. Then, students will work through the steps leading up to conducting their experiment, including making hypotheses, designing the experiment, and attaining funding. Once the students have completed their projects, we show them how to write complex scientific abstracts and make posters to eventually present at the local science fair!
