About Texpand

Who are we: We are Texpand, a South African high school robotics team and the 2024 World Champions in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)—where students design, build, and program robots to compete at the highest level against world-ranked teams, in America. Our journey began in a garage with a group of friends, most of whom had little to no robotics experience. With no technical coaches, we relied on our determination and passion for learning. Each year, we focused on mastering new skills, growing our knowledge, and pushing the boundaries of what we could achieve. Along the way, we connected with other teams and STEM professionals, whose guidance and support helped shape our journey. From these simple beginnings, we’ve grown into world champions, proving that with hard work, creativity, and collaboration, anything is possible. FTC has changed our lives and we are committed to helping others discover its transformative power. Through mentorship and outreach, we’re building a pipeline that expands STEM opportunities across South Africa, inspiring the next generation of innovators and leaders. Goals: Our future Goals are 1. Come back stronger and defend our World Championship title 2. Use our experience and networking opportunities to capacitate other students and FTC Teams. 3. Through mentorship and outreach, develop students like us, so that, together we can become the next generation of innovators and leaders who expand STEM opportunities across South Africa.
