We may not be able to prevent our kids from drinking or smoking when they're out of our site, but we can finally keep them safer on the road and prevent them from texting while driving thanks to a new phone application called Textecution. According to a 2006 study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Board, distracted drivers accounted for nearly 80% of all crashes. Studies reveal that texting makes them 6 times more likely to get into an accident than someone not distracted by texting. My children were the inspiration behind the idea. As a parent, I was concerned about their safety, and I felt that the temptation for them to text while driving was simply too great. After doing further research it became apparent that my kids are not unique. With a genuine interest in preventing needless tragedies, Textecution was born. Once installed, Textecution sits quietly in the background and allows the user to use their phone as normal. Once Textecution recognizes that the phone is traveling faster than 10 miles per hour, Textecution disables the phone's texting function so text messages cannot be sent or received. When the phone is at rest or traveling at a speed less than 10 miles per hour, the texting feature is seamlessly enabled.
