About Thar to Sahara
As the world tentatively finds its travel feet again, we're embarking on a journey of 21,000 km fuelled by shared values and commitment to two NGOs doing excellent work empowering Women and Girls in India and Morocco. Our Mission is to raise funds and awareness for Apne Ap Women Worldwide, working to end sex trafficking in India, and in Morocco, The Anou working for fair trade and beyond for artisans throughout the kingdom. The project was inspired by Paul Bowles' novel 'The Sheltering Sky', set in Morocco, where the author lived ... it's his origial travel-worn luggage which appears as part of the signature artwork for this journey! (you can find it in a small memorial exhibition in The American Legation Museum in Tangier). The journey, designed around 52 UNESCO World Heritage destinations will travel through three deserts: India's Thar and the Lut in Iran before reaching its conclusion in The Sahara Desert, (where the novel is largely set). It's here that we hope our vehicle sponsor will donate to The Anou the two 4x4 vehicles we've driven 21,000 km, so that they may continue their outreach work - in 2020 NGO The Anou were recognised as one of the most socially impactful projects in the MENA region by the Ashoka organisation. The team : Anna Kwiecinska and Khaver Ali Khan (Co-Founders), George Polycarpou (social media expert) and film-maker Anshul Gupta are seeking sponsors who share our visison to empower us to carry this project forward. Along with raising awareness through our 4 months of journey, we intend to raise funds for Apne Aap Women Worldwide, an organsiation dedicated to end sex-trafficking, empowering Women and Girls to reach their full potential. This dazzling journey will be captured for broadcast and content sharing throughout the journey and beyond, and daily posts & blogs will be shared directly from our Google Earth Journey Map.
