About The ALVA Student Society
"The Architecture, Landscape & Visual Arts Student Society of UWA" - or more simply known as "The ALVA Student Society" - was founded in 1967 as "The Architecture Society" by a small group of students who were passionate about education, advocation and representation within the Faculty of Architecture, the UWA Student Guild and The University of Western Australia. Much has changed in the 48 years; not only has the Faculty expanded to include the practices of Landscape Architecture and Visual Arts within their walls, but also has the structure of the student organisation and the student culture that the thousands of ALVA students are immersed in for 26 weeks of the year. The ALVA Student Society stands as the constant for all student interaction with the Faculty, the Guild and the University, as outlined in our Purpose: - To act as representatives for the students of the Faculty in all educational matters relating to the Faculty, the Guild and UWA, and to provide a means for information to be transferred between each party. - To facilitate opportunities for students to connect and network with practising professionals from a wide range of disciplines. - To promote the interaction between the UWA Nedlands campus and the other campuses of UWA through academic, extra-curricular, social and other initiatives and activities. - To engage with the local, national and international community through events and initiatives that promote the work of students, and to increase awareness and interaction between the public and the disciplines represented at the Faculty. The operations and actions of The ALVA Student Society are dictated by The Architecture, Landscape & Visual Arts Student Society of UWA Constitution (2015), our legal document that serves to accompany Guild Regulations made under Statute 20 and The University of Western Australia Act (1911). We work closely with affiliated organisations to ensure that we're giving the best for our students.
