About The Association of British Investigators
The Association of British Investigators (ABI) is the longest established organisation representing professional investigators in the private sector, with its foundations laid way back in 1913. With the absence of any statutory control of the professional investigation industry in the UK, The Association recognised the need for self-regulation many years ago and set very high standards to meet the criteria for membership opting for quality rather than quantity. Members are required to demonstrate good knowledge of the laws and regulations affecting investigators and general competency ; furthermore they are vetted as to financial probity and criminality (inspection of Basic Disclosure). In addition members must be notified for Data Protection purposes with the ICO and hold professional indemnity insurance cover. In recognition of these high standards, ABI is the only organisation of its kind to be working with The Law Society of England & Wales and included in the Law Society of Scotland approved contractor scheme. The Association is proud of the part it has played over many years in encouraging the regulation of our industry. Until some form of statutory control is put in place, ABI is the first place to look for professional and trustworthy investigators. See the membership listings at: www.TheABI.org.uk
