About The Balkan Trek

The Balkan Trek is a unique educational initiative that connects future global leaders from Harvard and MIT with one of Europe’s most dynamic and complex regions. Over the course of three generations of Treks, participants have met with Presidents, Prime Ministers, Ministers, leading entrepreneurs, and innovators across the Western Balkans. At the same time, they have immersed themselves in the region’s rich culture, history, and cuisine — experiencing the Balkans not only through high-level discussions, but also through the daily lives and traditions of its people. Each Trek is designed as a future-focused journey, helping students understand the opportunities and challenges of the Balkans as an emerging part of Europe. Looking ahead, the Balkan Trek will continue to grow through new initiatives and future visits, ensuring that the next generations of Harvard and MIT students engage deeply with the Balkans, building the knowledge, connections, and understanding needed for tomorrow’s global leadership.
