About The Barnton Bunker Preservation Society SCIO
Barnton Bunker is a Cold War-era nuclear bunker hidden beneath the streets of Edinburgh. Once a top-secret site built to coordinate the UK’s response in the event of nuclear war, it now stands as a rare and fascinating piece of Scotland’s 20th-century history. We’re a small, passionate team working through the Barnton Bunker Preservation Society SCIO to restore and protect the site. Our goal is to preserve the stories, architecture and purpose of the bunker, while gradually opening it to the public through guided tours, educational events and community projects. This is a volunteer-led effort, all progress so far has come through donations, hard work and support from the local community. We believe history like this deserves to be remembered and experienced, not hidden away.
