About The Barry L. Joyce Local Cancer Support Fund

Helping Rockingham County cancer victims and their families with everyday financial struggles to relieve at least some of the stress that this dreaded disease brings. The Barry L. Joyce Local Cancer Support Fund was established in 2001. The Fund was built from Barry's vision to help Rockingham County residents in need. Research during his battle with prostate cancer made him aware of how very few resources were available for financially-challenged cancer patients in the area. He discovered that many of those stricken with cancer didn't have access to affordable health coverage or to valuable treatment information. The family established the Fund in Barry's honor to help cancer victims and their families with everyday financial burdens. We are a huge resource for these patients. Many of whom often have no health insurance, have lost their jobs, or have become unable to work due to the challenges of battling cancer. We help them pay doctor and pharmaceutical bills, heating, gas and grocery bills to name a few. That way, they can focus on getting better. The Fund is the only of its kind and is one of the largest charities in Rockingham County. Best of all, it's run entirely by the family and volunteer friends. We don't incur overhead expenses like rent and salaries so more of the money we raise makes it directly into the hands of cancer patients in Rockingham County!
