About The Chad Foundation for Athletes and Artists

Chad Alan Butrum died of an undiagnosed heart anomaly at 26 while playing football. The mission of The Chad Foundation for Athletes and Artists, nonprofit charity, is two-fold: First, to raise awareness of Sudden Cardiac Death in Young Athletes and Students, promote 'heart-healthy living,' and advance "Cardiovascular Screenings in High Schools, Colleges, and Hospitals across the US" to detect heart anomalies and prevent Sudden Cardiac Death, as well as identify early cardiovascular risk factors in the young. Second, our mission as artists is to create/produce/sponsor art - film, theatre, and books that celebrate American stories of all heritages and provide a platform for artists to showcase their talents. Chad is dedicated to showing the inherent diversity of our country and the joys, challenges, and dreams we all strive for. "The Gift of Art" inspires youth to live as its namesake did- anti-substance abuse, "Healthy Body, Mind and Spirit." “The Life is a Gift Safe Driving Campaign” encourages students-- “Don’t text/drink, and drive." (Chad never smoked, drank, or did drugs his entire Life.) The Chad Scholarship Program honors the talents, character, and aspirations of student Athletes and Artists who have shown excellence in school and their communities.
