About The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia
The Children’s Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia (CRFMC) serves all children and families located in Benton and Franklin Counties. Our mission is to encourage and educate families about their important role in raising a reader, support schools in assuring that students read at grade level by the end of third grade, and facilitate the community in helping young readers be successful. Founded in Kennewick, Washington in 1996, five citizen founders and eight Washington school districts came together to start the foundation with the belief that the entire community is responsible and part of the solution to reading proficiency. The mission of The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia is three-fold: • Encourage and educate families and caregivers about their important role in raising a reader • Support schools in assuring that students read on grade level by the end of third grade • Facilitate community involvement in helping young readers be successful. Investing in early childhood education and early literacy programs helps to ensure that our area’s future economic health and workforce will be strong, capable, and viable. We provide READY! for Kindergarten, Team Read Tutoring, First Teacher Libraries, Books for Babies, and our READ UP Summer Reading program. Our vision is that every child learns to read early and read well, thereby reaching their full potential in school and in life. Our goal is to equip and empower parents with the knowledge that they can change the trajectory of their child’s lives by reading together at home every day, regardless of their circumstances in life or their own reading level. Through partnerships and collaboration, CRFMC reaches more families and children, ensuring that fewer students start their education career ill-prepared for success. CRMFC strives to serve those who need our information and resources the most.
