About The Citizen News
The Citizen is a Gauteng-based national newspaper and national news website. The website publishes breaking news and in-depth news, analysis, sport, motoring, and lifestyle content 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The print publication is distributed daily from Monday to Friday, with its core circulation in Gauteng (82%). Saturday Citizen appears on Saturdays. In 2012, Eureka Zandberg took over from Greg Stewart as the publisher of The Citizen. She brought in renowned design guru Dr. Mario Garcia to give the newspaper a complete revamp. In Dr. Garcia's words, "In South Africa, The Citizen decided to face challenges and seize opportunities, while sending a message to its devoted readers: you have changed, and so have we." The new edition hit the streets on 1 August 2013. The Citizen represents the best of what a modern media house can produce. Today's journalists are storytellers and do so in a variety of ways on numerous platforms. We offer our readers a smooth journey and fully integrated experience across mobile, tablet, print and online. Our value propositions are tailored to fit the various interests of our readers. The Citizen Print Editor is Trevor Stevens and Digital Editor is Earl Coetzee. The newspaper carries quality content across its various editorial pillars including: news, business, sport, lifestyle and entertainment, motoring, horse racing, gaming and auctions. We bring our readers the most important daily happenings, both locally and internationally in a concise, easy-to-read tabloid format. Our supplements carry a large variety of interesting subjects such as sport, economics, politics, entertainment and leisure, motoring, health and horse racing. In response to a huge gap in the market for local soccer news, The Citizen launched a new soccer supplement, Phakaaathi, on the 22nd July 2014. Phakaaathi is edited by Jonty Mark a well-known sports writer who specialises in soccer and is published as a pull-out supplement every Tuesday.
