The Clean Kilo is a project which will limit the amount of plastic that ends up in the ocean, waste which threatens marine life and ultimately human health. Plastic production has increased unsustainably since the 1960’s. We would like to give the choice back to the consumer to help significantly reduce plastic pollution by opening an affordable supermarket in Birmingham where food, drink, cleaning products and toiletries come without packaging. Customers will be able to dispense as little or as much as they want into reusable containers, which they can bring from home, buy from us or use the free paper bags provided - the single-use plastic era is coming to an end. At The Clean Kilo you will be able to... save money because you won't be paying for packaging (almost a fifth of your shopping bill goes towards packaging!). stop wasting food because you can buy as much or as little as you need meaning you can try new ingredients without having to buy big bags full (another money saver!). get super fresh ingredients like peanut butter and coffee ground by yourself in store, along with fruit juices from our juicer! help save the planet and marine wildlife. help to keep toxic chemicals off your dinner plate. help to educate people about sustainability issues. We will be organising documentary nights and school visits in order to spread the word about zero waste. reinventing your kitchen storage space without being relentlessly targeted with marketing every time we enter our kitchen.
