About The Cooks Workshop
With the presence of chronic health issues in our community, it is an important responsibility for care organisations to provide a healthy lifestyle including education in healthy eating and the provision of healthy meal choices. People with a disability, living with family or in shared living and group homes, have similar chronic health issues as those in the broader community. For example, obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol and mental illness – Many participants have additional complexities due to their intellectual and physical disabilities. Most importantly, before someone can prepare their own healthy meals, they need to learn the skills to cook and plan! The Cooks Workshop shares their passion for teaching people how to cook. We meet them where they are, and build an education programme based on their goals, interests, food choices and health needs.
