About The Counter Academy For Arab Journalism

The Counter Academy for Arab Journalism (CA) is a one year a academic program in Arabic that fosters critical thinking, curiosity, rigor and creativity and give young journalists the tools to understand the complex and ever-changing patterns of politics, social interactions and cultural production, allowing them to ultimately produce critical and engaging journalism that goes beyond the surface. Through a series of courses, intensive readings, workshops, in person bootcamps, editorial feedback and an internship period, students develop critical intellectual optics to engage and understand interactions in their societies, power politics and how all of that is reflected and negotiated in cultural practices. The program targets journalists, writers, researchers, filmmakers, photographers, podcasters, artists and, generally, curious young candidates with critical views and interest in current affairs and cultural production. They are typically candidates who still have a lot to learn and who are interested in pursuing intellectual growth, while wanting to make their way to journalism; The program is free, and it provides some of the students with a symbolic monthly stipend to allow them to make the needed space for the extensive learning process.
