About The Court Theatre
The Court Theatre is your theatre, whoever you are. We not only entertain - we celebrate, challenge, reflect and question what it means to be human by provoking stirring reactions through great theatre. As Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest theatre company, The Court Theatre has been a part of the Ōtautahi Christchurch and Waitaha Canterbury community for 50 years. We aim to enrich, support and sustain our audiences by providing theatre of the highest quality. As a proudly Aotearoa New Zealand theatre we celebrate the voices of this country and its peoples on stage, regularly programming original and established Aotearoa New Zealand theatre work as well as commissioning and developing original Aotearoa New Zealand plays. The Court Theatre also seeks to connect local communities with the rest of the world through shared story-telling, producing international, contemporary and classic plays that engage, challenge and inspire. Our education and outreach programme supports this kaupapa by introducing new audiences to the organisation and the value of the performing arts in our lives through various pathways and deepening levels of engagement for audiences.
