Since 1st March 2016, all the laboratory- and clinical-research work plus the curatorial work on David Apple’s archive materials is managed within one Steinbeis Research Center: The David J Apple Center for Vision Research, part of the international Steinbeis Network of successful technology transfer groups between the sciences, academia, trade and industry. Set in the thriving Eye Department of Heidelberg University - Heidelberg's Medical Faculty is the oldest in Germany: over 600 years of education and research in medicine - the center is named after David Apple (September 14, 1941 – August 18, 2011) who pioneered research on the pathology of intraocular lens (IOL) complications and other medical devices used in anterior segment ophthalmic surgery. Research areas: Laboratory Optical measurement of IOLs Laboratory and Clinical research on IOLs and OVDs Virtual-reality surgery simulation (using the Eyesi simulator).
