Adopting innovative self-care resources and tools at the intersections of music, compassion, and social justice, from an intersectional-feminist lens and emphasis on rest, pleasure, joy as resistance, the Distinguished Founding Support Member of the Global Compassion Coalition and the Certified Positive Neuroplasticity Teacher, Shumaila Hemani, Ph.D. addresses traumas of systemic oppression that manifest in burnout with by nurturing self-compassion, vitality, and grit in her new program: R.E.S.U.R.G.E.N.C.E. Hemani meets clients where they are in their healing journey and provides support and understanding to help clients nurture key character strengths and inner resources to meet challenges. Committed to creating a safe and collaborative space for clients to develop their self-awareness and be supported in reaching their advocacy goals, Hemani’s work has been described as creating “a deep yearning among the participants to seek equity and justice in this world in which we are immersed.” Based on a lived experience of advocacy burnout combined with various sensory and artistic modalities, Hemani has created a one-of-a-kind approach based on each client’s individual needs. Some of these modalities include positive neuroplasticity, mindfulness meditation, acceptance and commitment theory, attachment theory, and deep listening approaches. Hemani also received the Women in Music Canada’s 2023 Honor Roll and was Runner-up in Alberta Blue Cross’ 2023 Faces of Wellness. The colleges, non-profits, and organizations are invited to address burnout in their company by taking a peak at the courses we offer.
