The Directors Theatre Writers Theatre (TDTWT) is an international company making bold, politically charged work for the stage. Founded in 2011 by artist and director Than Hussein Clark, TDTWT is based in the UK and tours across Europe, creating theatre that crosses borders—geographically, culturally, and artistically. At the heart of our work is an international ensemble of 18 actors, based across the UK, Europe, and the US. Their diverse perspectives shape our productions, bringing a global sensibility to every performance. The ensemble’s work has been presented at major institutions and festivals, including the Centre Pompidou (Paris), Art Basel (Basel), Liverpool Biennial, South London Gallery, and the Swiss Institute (New York). Than’s interdisciplinary practice spans theatre, performance, and visual art, with solo exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Art Basel Miami, Frieze New York, Mumok (Vienna), CRAC Occitanie (Sète), and Kunstverein in Hamburg. His work has been featured in group exhibitions at the British Art Show 9, Belgrade Biennale, Museum Ludwig (Cologne), and Futura (Prague), reflecting his deep engagement with contemporary culture and aesthetics. Our process is clear and uncompromising. We use naturalism to ground our work, blending it with post-dramatic techniques to challenge how stories are told and experienced. Facts first, feelings second. Queer politics are central to everything we do—not as a theme, but as a way of working. Our productions are designed to provoke, disrupt, and invite audiences to see things differently.
