About The Elephant Project

The Elephant Project will use new and innovative ideas and research to develop solutions that address the short and long term needs of an important keystone species - the elephant. We will conduct non-invasive research to find effective solutions to end poaching, illegal trafficking, human-elephant conflicts, and to address the long-term environmental needs of elephants. We will bring elephants who are being treated inhumanely back to their native habitat as well as provide a sanctuary for those elephants who need a new home because of political, environmental, and fiscal difficulties. Key to this effort is applying free market principles to foster new dynamic and humane economies where protecting elephants produces prosperity for local residents and the host country. We believe this model, rather than the current donor-based system that relies on government regulations paired with continuous private contributions, will create real incentives for those on the front lines of the struggle, and will be sustainable for the future.
