About The English School, Helsinki
The English School provides an excellent learning environment rich with opportunity and innovation. We inspire a passion for learning and compassion for the world. We follow the Finnish National Core curriculum. Because we have a special status granted by the ministry, we work with a modified amount of english teaching hours that exceeds the national requirement. The English School encompasses our Preschool, Elementary, Middle School and High School. The English School Preschool offers a total immersion, two-year English language preschool program, providing a developmentally appropriate core curriculum based on the Finnish national curriculum. It is the perfect preparation for entry into The English School bilingual (Finnish-English) elementary program. Our preschool is a two-year program and the first year, Preschool 1, begins the year your child turns five. The second preschool year is Preschool 2. The English School Elementary (Grades 1-6) offers high quality hands-on learning through student-centered discovery. This is implemented with phenomenon-based learning, using real-world connections. We provide a nurturing environment, with an expectation of a high level of achievement. The English School Middle School (Grades 7-9) students deepen their understanding, knowledge and skills in their subject areas. While mastering the content of each subject is valued, developing one’s study skills is equally important. Attention to a high work morale, good manners and citizenship skills provide students with a solid base for later studies and for life. The English School High School offers a unique bilingual program that enables our students to graduate from high school truly fluent in both languages, while the courses taught in Finnish provide the necessary terminology to complete the matriculation examinations successfully. If a student's official native language is not Finnish or Swedish, we offer an excellent Finnish as a second language program.
