About The Family Law Project - Specialist Family Lawyers
The Family Law Project is a specialist Family Law firm - Australia wide. We only provide fixed billing. Our founding Director, Shaya Lewis-Dermody is an Independent Children's Lawyer and nominated for the past 3 years for the Women in Law Awards "Thought Leader of the Year" category and won in 2022. The FLP was started after Shaya's frustration around the lack of quality and accessible Family Law services in both SA and interstate. Shaya saw first hand the clients who were unable to access legal services due to restrictive fees. She also saw Legal Aid clients being discriminated against and receiving "second rate" services because they were not paying their solicitor privately. She saw a need for private clients to have the option of fixed fee cost agreements. Clients who were "asset rich but cash poor" also needed deferred payment options to ensure that they have quality legal representation. The FLP also started with an idea that a Law Firm could be socially responsible. Oxymoron?! The firm takes a different approach in that not only do we solely practice in Family Law, but being socially responsible is at the core of our values. The charity that we have supported over the past 6 years is Hands Across The Water as Director Shaya Lewis-Dermody and other staff have completed the last 2 500km bike rides in Thailand raising well over $50,000 towards the charity. We have a focus on ensuring Family Law is accessible to the community by using innovative technology and offering appointments outside of typical office hours. We offer fixed fee services for some property matters and also parenting matters.
