About The Fargreen Global Initiative

Fargreen Global Initiative traces its roots to Fargreen Vietnam, a social enterprise founded by Khánh Trang in 2013 while pursuing her Impact MBA at Colorado State University. Born from a desire to empower rural Vietnamese farmers, Fargreen Vietnam focused on building prosperous and sustainable farming communities. Recognizing the detrimental impact of open burning of rice straw, the initiative pioneered a unique approach, cultivating high-quality, environmentally friendly edible mushrooms grown exclusively on rice straw. Over nearly a decade, Fargreen Vietnam trained over a hundred farmers, fostering a strong network dedicated to producing high-quality, environmentally friendly, and socially responsible food products. The initiative expanded its scope beyond mushroom cultivation, incorporating sustainable rice, vegetables, honey, and educational tours into its operations, reflecting the interconnectedness of the agricultural ecosystem. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Fargreen Vietnam successfully supplied its products to prestigious hotels and restaurants across Vietnam. However, the pandemic severely impacted the hospitality industry, forcing Fargreen farmers to adapt and seek new markets. This unexpected challenge proved to be a turning point. Driven by necessity, farmers independently explored new sales channels, demonstrating remarkable resilience and entrepreneurial spirit. This experience reaffirmed Khánh Trang's core vision: to empower farmers to thrive independently within their own communities. Recognizing the importance of local ownership and leadership, a strategic decision was made to dissolve the Fargreen Vietnam entity and establish a new identity: the Fargreen Global Initiative, a non-profit organization based in Vienna, Austria.
