About The Film Stars Project

The Film Stars Project (FSP) offers a range of arts-based services rooted in the various creative and technical disciplines that comprise the film industry. While the modality is primarily, and ideally, in-person, remote and virtual programs have been successfully implemented over the past few years. Using film production, photography, documentary/ journalism, storytelling, and makeup arts as the vehicle, the FSP team and partners have produced and facilitated responsive and culturally-informed mental health, wellbeing, anti-recidivism, employability, healthy relationship, and leadership programs. Our program works with racialized youth from Toronto's most under-resourced Neighbourhood Improvement Areas. These youth face various factors which negatively impact their health and wellbeing. Overexposure to community and domestic violence, social isolation, histories of trauma, mental health concerns, neighbourhood stigma, disenfranchisement, and economic and housing insecurity can all lead to increased anti-social and risky behaviours, including substance experimentation. Our mission at The Film Stars Project (FSP) is an arts-centric platform aiming to create safe spaces for creative expression and self exploration, providing and assisting young people to reshape their world and redefine their personal narrative by establishing building blocks of strong self-worth and self-esteem, and the technical and interpersonal learning that will lead these young people to become stars.
